EXPERIMENTAL LABORATORY B-PART
B-PART: NEW PIONEER PROJECT LAUNCHED AT URBANE MITTE AM GLEISDREIECK
In early 2019, another pioneer project will open at Urbane Mitte Am Gleisdreieck – on one of Berlin’s most central inner-city construction sites. On its premises of approx. 1.000 square metres directly alongside the park, B-Part will provide a place for people who want to experience, explore, and shape the living and working environments of tomorrow. The temporary building will be used as a laboratory to develop ideas and themes to later be integrated into the future urban quarter. This will create around 100 coworking spaces that can be booked per day or used on a flexible or ongoing basis through Flex and Fixed Desk memberships. Teams that would like to work on projects in B-Part over a longer period of time can sign up for another type of membership: Team Office Membership. As part of the call for proposals, scholarships are awarded to teams and committed thought leaders, selected because of their predominant focus on developing aspects of the city of the future and ideal city quarters. There will also be flexible multi-purpose spaces that can be used for presentations, workshops, art exhibitions, discussion panels, and events for up to 200 people. These spaces can also be booked by external parties. A public café provides a welcoming environment for the people of Berlin to come and linger. B-Part is mainly run by the well-known Berlin coworking provider St. Oberholz, represented and managed by founder Ansgar Oberholz himself. The temporary building will be a modular timber construction, built in collaboration with Swiss timber construction company Renggli AG. Construction has begun end of August 2018 and will be faster and more sustainable than traditional construction methods thanks to the approach and materials chosen here. B-Part is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2019. After its use, the building can be relocated to another site.
‘How will we live and work tomorrow?’: Starting from this exploratory question, Urbane Mitte Am Gleisdreieck introduced residents and other interested parties to the B-Part project at the BRLO Brwhouse on Monday, 20 August 2018. Following on from the popular brewery, which in its time on the site has grown to become a beloved city hangout, B-Part offers another early glimpse of the potential of urban development projects at Gleisdreieck – creating a meaningful and inspiring quarter for neighbours, visitors to the park, and open-minded people from Berlin and all over the world.

The Gleisdreieck has always been a place filled with movement. Ideas now circulate in a location where goods were once moved around.
